In 1866, Wilhelm Maybach and Gottfried Daimler built a self-developed gasoline engine and put it into a carriage. A little over a decade later, in 1879, the first two-stroke engine was launched by Carl Benz. Daimler-Benz AG was finally founded in 1926 by the company "Daimler Motorengesellschaft" and "Benz & Cie". Ferdinand Porsche, who was initially employed as chief designer at Daimler, also founded the Porsche construction department in Stuttgart in 1931.
